Spring 2015 One Room Challenge: Week One

It's One Room Challenge time!!! I can't believe that it has been six months since I participated in my first ORC and my friends and family can't believe that I'm crazy enough to attempt a second one now!

For those of you that don’t know what the One Room Challenge is, it’s a six week challenge where 20 bloggers are selected to transform a room from start to finish. Linda, from Calling It Home, started this challenge a few years ago and it has grown into an amazing semi-annual challenge that all bloggers are invited to link up to.

I am thrilled to be a linking  participant for a second time. You can check out my reveal from the Fall 2014 ORC hereI will be posting updates every Thursday and the completed room will be revealed on Thursday, May 7th.

For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Megan and I’m obsessed with all things home decor. I love bold colors and patterns and want my home to have a bright, clean, and comfortable feeling. I’m trying my best to achieve the look I want, but have a really hard time committing to a specific color scheme so currently my home is not a true reflection of my style. You see, I am a dreamer, a thinker, and a planner, but I have a HUGE fear of commitment that often prevents me from even starting a project, let alone finishing it (I’m a buy the picture but don’t hang it on the wall kind of girl). The Fall 2014 ORC provided me with the swift kick in the butt that I needed to finally make some commitments in my color scheme/theme but my home still needs LOTS OF LOVE!

For the Spring 2015 ORC I have decided to tackle my breakfast room. It's connected to my kitchen, deck, and living room and is a room that we spend a significant amount of time in each day. Unfortunately, I started to add built in cabinets a couple of years ago and never completely finished them. To say that this project has put a slight strain on my marriage would be putting it lightly, so I have a lot weighing on the completion of this ORC.

First let me share a few inspiration pictures for my breakfast room to give you an idea of what I want my room to feel like when all is said and done.

Here is the sad state of affairs that my breakfast room is currently in.

This is a brief outline of my plans for my breakfast nook:

  • Paint walls
  • Complete molding, caulk, and paint on cabinets
  • Install doors on cabinets
  • Upholstered back for bench
  • Cushion for bench
  • Pillows for bench
  • Artwork
  • Change window treatment
  • Change light fixture
  • Table and chairs
Obviously I have a lot of work to do to make my vision come to life but I'm ready for the challenge!  Check back next Thursday for an update on my progress. I will be sharing updates on Instagram throughout the week as well (chic_hive). If you are looking for more design inspiration check out all of the other linking participants for the ORC here.

Thanks for stopping by!
